Sprint Week

Sprint Week

The 2nd half of Sprint Week encompasses a Southern Indiana swing through some of the toughest competitors across the state. There are a lot of really good cars that don’t travel outside of these tracks so Sprint Week becomes especially competitive when you go to those places. Night #4 would kick off at the Bloomington Speedway; it has been a place we have struggled this year and we were hoping to turn our luck around. We started off the night 17th quick after a big wheelie on our second lap in qualifying. That would line us up 2nd in our heat race and we just didn’t adjust the car enough and we struggled. I ended up jumping the cushion and that put us back to a 6th place finish. For the B-main we changed a lot, but we couldn’t seem to make a difference, and for the feature we had to take a provisional. For the feature we changed more stuff, but it just didn’t seem to make a difference. We left the track scratching our heads, but decided to try some new things for Haubstadt.

We drove further south to one of my favorite tracks, Tri-State Speedway for night #5 of Indiana Sprint Week. Before the start of the night, we decided to change 3 of the shocks on the car and go with our normal set up for there. We timed in 15th quick, it was just a little greasier than we expected and that hurt us. Just being a tenth off makes a huge difference when there are so many cars within a half second. 15th would line us up starting 3rd in heat #3; we got a good start and were able to grab the lead coming out of turn 2 on the 2nd lap and would lead the remainder of the heat to grab our 2nd heat race win of Sprint Week. I was feeling good prior to the feature and we would line up 12th, with lots of good cars in front and behind us. We got a good start and would pass some cars and would get to 6th with about 5 to go. Unfortunately, we had a throttle spring break about halfway through the race and it made the throttle difficult to control, which ended up costing us a position at the end of the race. All things considered, it was a good run after the night at Bloomington and we were looking forward to finishing out our week at Lincoln Park Speedway.

Lincoln Park Speedway has been one of my favorite tracks this year so I was hoping for a good run to cap off the week. We didn’t have a good qualify run, but were able to battle our way into a transfer spot in the heat to put ourselves into the feature. Starting 20th would be a tall task with the quality of cars at the track, but we moved forward quickly. By about halfway through the race, we were 13th and with a gaggle of struggling cars in front of us knew we had a good enough car for a top 7 or 8 finish. Unfortunately, a rock or mud clod hit a nozzle line and knocked it off and we had to make a trip to the work area. We tightened the nozzle line back up and went back out and worked our way back to 15th, but it didn’t show our true speed that night. It was unfortunate, but that is how the racing luck goes sometimes!
